[Alstom](https://www.alstom.com/?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com) has secured a first order worth approximately €800 million to supply Metropolis trains for Hanoi urban-rail projects, giving a disclosed financial scale to the first tranche under its agreement with Vingroup. The company announced the order on 19 October, following the broader train-supply and technology-licensing agreement unveiled on 6 October.

In its [note to investors](https://ml-eu.globenewswire.com/Resource/Download/6b50cb22-0da6-49ba-b33a-74acfa497c76?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com), Alstom said the trains for this tranche would be designed and manufactured at its Valenciennes Petite-Forêt site in France. That identifies French production as the source of the newly secured train supply, while Vietnamese assembly remains a separate part of the wider agreement.

Alstom said it would book the first-tranche order in the third quarter of its 2026/27 financial year. The announcement therefore gives investors both an order value and an expected order-booking quarter. The note does not specify the number of trains in this tranche or a delivery schedule.

## How the order fits the earlier agreement

As [SEA Connect reported on 7 October](https://www.southeastasiaconnect.com/vingroup-alstom-hanoi-metro-train-supply-vietnam-assembly/), the earlier agreement covered up to 83 five-car Metropolis trains supplied from France and a technology licence supporting assembly of another 117 trains in Vietnam. Alstom’s [6 October announcement](https://www.alstom.com/press-releases-news/2026/10/alstom-and-vingroup-join-forces-advance-vietnams-urban-rail-ambitions?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com) said Vingroup would assemble the additional trains using components supplied by Alstom.

The original announcement, made with Vingroup through its member company Vinhomes, placed order booking at financial close. The new investor note now identifies a secured first tranche and its expected booking quarter; the approximately €800 million figure applies to that tranche.

The wider partnership connects Hanoi’s rail expansion with an intended Vietnamese assembly capability. In its earlier announcement, Alstom described Valenciennes Petite-Forêt as its metro centre of expertise and linked the partnership to Hanoi’s ambition for an 18-line, 979-kilometre urban-rail network by 2045.

Alstom also has an existing supply relationship with Hanoi. Its earlier release lists ten four-car Metropolis trains, signalling, power supply and depot equipment supplied for Metro Line 3\. The Vingroup agreement concerns a separate five-car train programme.
