A payment records money moving. An accounting entry explains what that movement means for the business. [Aspire](https://aspireapp.com/en-sg/?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com) is bringing those two activities into the same software with [AspireBooks](https://aspireapp.com/en-sg/blog/aspire-launches-aspirebooks-ai-powered-accounting-platform?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com), the accounting product it [launched in Singapore on 26 October](https://aspireapp.com/en-sg/blog/aspire-launches-aspirebooks-ai-powered-accounting-platform?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com). For a finance team, the consequential change is where matching and classification begin: alongside the transaction, rather than in a separate bookkeeping exercise.

## From payment to accounting entry

[Aspire says the system uses AI to classify transactions, suggest accounting categories and tax treatment, and match payments with invoices and bills](https://aspireapp.com/en-sg/blog/aspire-launches-aspirebooks-ai-powered-accounting-platform?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com). Users review and approve the entries. The proposed workflow brings the transaction, its supporting document and an accounting suggestion closer together, giving the reviewer a starting point instead of an empty ledger entry.

Those steps serve different purposes. Matching links a movement of money to a bill or invoice. Classification assigns it an accounting category. Approval accepts the entry into the business’s records. Bringing the steps into one platform can reduce movement between tools; the quality of the resulting accounts still depends on the documents and decisions behind each entry.

## Why a bank record is only part of the picture

Singapore’s [IRAS record-keeping guidance](https://www.iras.gov.sg/taxes/corporate-income-tax/basics-of-corporate-income-tax/record-keeping-requirements?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com) makes the distinction concrete: bank statements alone are insufficient. Companies must retain source documents and records that explain their income, expenses and purchases. An invoice establishes details that a payment amount alone may not explain.

This gives the review step a specific job. A suggested category or matched payment needs to make sense alongside the underlying transaction. Software can bring the records together, while the company remains responsible for the account it presents. [ACRA’s guidance for directors](https://www.acra.gov.sg/manage/companies/legal-requirements-common-offences/preparing-financial-statements/financial-reporting-duties-for-directors/?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com) retains their responsibility for financial reporting.

## Current books and regional complexity

Aspire describes continuously updated profit-and-loss, balance-sheet and ledger reports, with multicurrency records for businesses handling transactions in different currencies. That is a different capability from managing several legal entities: the launch announcement lists multi-entity support as coming soon.

The product therefore offers a concrete example of finance software moving from executing transactions into maintaining the books around them. Its launch account explains the intended workflow, but provides no measured error rate or comparison of time spent closing the books. The useful test of that model is whether the linked documents, suggestions and approvals produce records a finance team can explain.
