Hyosung TNC says it began commercial operation of a 50,000-tonne-a-year Bio-BDO plant in Ho Chi Minh City as part of a US$1 billion integrated bio-spandex production system in Vietnam.

The company published the announcement on 14 September; it did not specify the exact date operations began.

The reported system links sugarcane-based Bio-BDO to PTMG production at Hyosung TNC’s Dong Nai plant and then to its regen Bio spandex output. That vertical chain is the commercial point: the company is describing a connected materials platform rather than a standalone fibre-production step.

Hyosung TNC says the new plant has infrastructure that could support capacity of up to 200,000 tonnes annually as demand grows. That figure describes possible expansion capacity, not current output. The company’s disclosed operating starting point is 50,000 tonnes a year of Bio-BDO.

For regional manufacturers and materials buyers, the development points to Vietnam’s role in bio-based input processing as well as finished textile-material production. Its next useful proof points would be reported utilisation, downstream customer uptake, a funded expansion decision or independently measured environmental performance.
