Indonesia inaugurated an LPG processing plant in Cilamaya, Karawang, on 15 October. The facility owned by PT Energi Nusantara Perkasa is producing about 160 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas a day, according to the [Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources](https://esdm.go.id/id/media-center/arsip-berita/hasilkan-160-ton-lpg-per-hari-kilang-cilamaya-bantu-pasokan-warga-jabar-dan-jakarta?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com). It processes gas supplied by Pertamina Hulu.

The plant adds a domestic source of LPG near two large consuming markets. The ministry estimates that its daily output is equivalent to 10–15% of LPG needs in West Java and Jakarta. That is the ministry's comparison of production with regional demand, rather than a measure of how much gas has reached households in either market.

The ministry also puts the plant's installed **gas-processing capacity** at 40 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). This describes the volume of incoming gas the facility can process. It is a different measure from the approximately 160 tonnes of LPG the ministry says the plant produces daily. The ministry says the operation employs 82 people.

Indonesia has a larger supply challenge behind the local project. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said national LPG consumption is about 8.5 million tonnes a year, while domestic production capacity is no more than 1.8 million tonnes. The ministry said annual LPG imports remain at around 7–8 million tonnes. Those national figures explain the government's interest in processing more locally available gas, but one plant's output is only a fraction of the national requirement.

Bahlil said LPG feedstock is unevenly distributed across Indonesia. The government therefore wants more small and medium-sized plants near suitable gas sources, rather than relying only on large projects. The Cilamaya facility shows that approach in operation: gas is processed in Karawang into an LPG product that the ministry expects to support supplies in West Java and Jakarta.

Bahlil also called for faster permitting for medium-sized energy businesses. He asked officials to complete permits within one week when an application meets all requirements. This is a direction to the permitting agencies, not a change in the Cilamaya plant's output. It matters to developers considering other gas-processing sites because the government is pairing its call for more small plants with a stated processing time for complete permit applications.
