Malaysia's PayNet opens overseas DuitNow QR payments through Alipay+
PayNet is Malaysia's national payments network. Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank are first in the scheme; supported users can scan participating merchants' QR codes abroad.

PayNet, Malaysia’s national payments network, says users of supported Malaysian banking apps can scan participating Alipay+ merchant QR codes abroad and confirm payment in their existing app, without opening a separate Alipay+ account. PayNet lists five destinations for the new outbound DuitNow QR route, while Hong Leong Bank’s own announcement currently describes China and Hong Kong as available for its customers, with South Korea, the Philippines and Laos to follow.
Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank are the initial participating banks, PayNet says. Bank Islam is expected to join later.
How the outbound payment works
At a participating merchant, a customer opens the DuitNow QR function in a supported app, scans the merchant’s Alipay+ QR code and confirms the payment in that app.
The new capability works in the outward direction. Since 2023, supported Alipay+ partner wallets have been able to pay at DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia. That earlier inbound route and Hong Leong Bank’s existing UnionPay and Weixin Pay connections are separate from this launch.
