Singapore has allocated S$138 million to a food research programme under Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 (RIE2030), setting the next public funding priorities for agri-food innovation while grant-call details remain scheduled for 2027, the Singapore Food Agency said on 27 October.

The allocation to SFA, under the Urban Solutions and Sustainability research domain, will support the Singapore Food R&D Programme. Its five areas are aquaculture, agriculture, future foods, food safety and food supply resilience. The last is a new programme area focused on using data and modelling to anticipate climate-related risks and supply disruptions, alongside work on food storage.

For farms and researchers, the agriculture track includes seed varieties suited to tropical conditions and cultivation methods aimed at higher yields with lower energy use. The aquaculture track covers breeding, feed, fish health and farming systems. Future foods and food safety remain separate research areas, including production efficiency and methods to assess emerging hazards.

Grant-call details for the RIE2030 Singapore Food R&D Programme will be released in 2027, SFA said.
