UOB and Visa are turning premium cards into a regional product architecture, with UOB relaunching selected Visa Infinite products across five ASEAN markets under newly introduced card tiers.

## What changed

UOB said the multi-market relaunch covers Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, and will upgrade more than 300,000 Visa Infinite cardholders to new premium tiers. The bank said eligible cardholders will be notified through official channels from September, with no action required from them. The release says UOB is Visa’s largest card issuer in ASEAN by total billings and serves more than 8.5 million customers across the region. The new card tiers are positioned around affluent and high-net-worth customer segments, with UOB adding its own curated benefits to Visa’s refreshed Asia-Pacific offering.

## Why it matters

For Southeast Asia’s banking market, this is useful because it shows how regional banks are trying to standardise customer propositions without treating ASEAN as one uniform market. A single card architecture can support cross-border consistency, but the customer experience still has to be local enough for each market.

The affluent segment is also becoming a payments and loyalty battleground. Banks, card networks, travel platforms and lifestyle partners are all competing for customers who expect higher personalisation, stronger digital servicing and more regionally portable benefits.

The launch also matters for payments operators because it links card product design with regional data, customer segmentation and merchant acceptance. The commercial question is whether regional tiers can drive usage and retention rather than simply changing card labels.

## What to watch

The next signals are the September cardholder rollout, market-level uptake, merchant or travel partnerships and whether UOB extends the same segmentation logic into broader wealth, payments or lifestyle products.
