[Vietjet Air](https://www.vietjetair.com/vi?ref=southeastasiaconnect.com)'s international expansion has reached Europe. Prague Airport identifies Prague as the Vietnam-based airline's first European destination, and flight records show its first Hanoi–Prague service arrived on 10 October via Almaty. The opening adds a European endpoint to a network Vietjet has been extending across Asia and beyond.

In a September update, Vietjet reported carrying more than 13.4 million passengers in the first half of 2026 across 213 routes, including 167 international routes. Those are company-reported figures for that period, not a count of routes operating on the Prague launch date. Prague is a distinct step in the expansion: the airline is now operating into Europe, rather than only announcing an intention to do so.

## A wider international network

The Prague opening follows another documented international launch. Sri Lanka's airport operator reported the arrival of Vietjet's inaugural Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo flight on 18 August. Vietjet has also announced a Ho Chi Minh City–Western Sydney service for January 2027; that Australian link remains a plan, not an operating route. Together, the operating openings and announced pipeline show how the carrier is widening its map, while each market is at a different stage.

Vietjet's 2025 order for 20 Airbus A330neo widebody aircraft was explicitly tied to future long-haul expansion, including Europe. The order is evidence of a fleet plan, not evidence that those aircraft have been delivered or used on the Prague service. Prague Airport's earlier route announcement instead specified an A330-300 for the initial operation.

## What Prague adds

For travel sellers, Prague gives Vietjet's Vietnam-origin network a European itinerary to offer, with the Almaty stop made clear to customers. Prague Airport said the route was planned twice weekly and pointed to onward connections across Vietjet's Asian network. Its pre-launch estimate of more than 75,000 annual Prague–Hanoi travellers describes the existing city-pair market before this service; it does not measure Vietjet's bookings or passenger loads.

For airports and destination partners, the first recorded arrival is a concrete market entry that can now be assessed against later operating and demand evidence. It does not yet show sustained frequency, commercial performance or the effect on tourism and trade. The near-term development is Vietjet's presence in Europe as part of a broader international growth programme, with Prague's actual take-up still to be measured.
