BYD plans to inaugurate its Indonesian factory in Subang, West Java, on 3 September, according to Indonesian media reports quoting the company's invitation. Reports published on 29 August said the invitation had been received by their newsrooms, with one explicitly dating its receipt to that day.

For BYD, the facility is a step from selling imported vehicles in Indonesia towards building a local manufacturing base. It also gives the surrounding industrial estate a major automotive tenant whose operations could create opportunities for component suppliers and other businesses serving vehicle production.
From land agreement to planned inauguration
BYD signed its land-purchase agreement with estate developer PT Suryacipta Swadaya on 30 April 2024. In its official release about that agreement, BYD described an Indonesian electric-vehicle development that would include research and development and training facilities alongside manufacturing.
That release placed the project in the northern part of Subang Smartpolitan's second phase. BYD said its choice reflected the site's infrastructure, location and room for development. The company identified access to major roads, Patimban Port and Kertajati Airport as advantages for the investment.
Those links matter for an automotive plant handling incoming components and moving finished vehicles to customers. Suryacipta's wider estate plans also include industrial water supply, wastewater treatment and electricity infrastructure supporting its manufacturing tenants.
The original land agreement set out an earlier operating timetable. The newly reported September ceremony is a separate milestone and should not be read as confirmation that the earlier timetable was met.
A date for the next milestone
The invitation reports place the ceremony on Thursday, 3 September, with President Prabowo Subianto scheduled to attend. His attendance remains a plan, not a completed visit.
