Indonesia and China plan to establish a working-level group to develop cooperation in artificial intelligence, technology transfer and the communications sector, moving the digital agenda from high-level dialogue toward a more technical forum.

The ministry identified AI development and technology transfer as areas for follow-up. It also linked the discussion to Indonesia’s critical-minerals base and the potential role of those materials in semiconductor and microchip supply chains.
The practical innovation-economy test is what the working group produces. Named research programmes, investment commitments, skills transfer, local supplier participation or deployable technology projects would turn bilateral language into measurable industrial activity.
The announcement does not identify budgets, participating companies, delivery dates or specific technologies. It therefore establishes a cooperation mechanism; technology transfer and new AI capacity remain future outcomes to assess.
A follow-up meeting is expected in China in early 2027. Until then, the key evidence will be the group’s membership, work programme and whether Indonesian institutions and companies receive defined roles in projects. Those details will show whether the mechanism has operational substance.
