Singapore-based Liquid Group and PagBrasil have launched the first phase of a cross-border QR payment corridor connecting participating RoamQR-enabled banking apps and wallets in Asia with Brazil’s Pix merchant network.

According to the companies, eligible travellers can scan standard Pix QR codes at participating Brazilian merchants using the payment apps they already use at home. Merchants can keep their existing Pix displays, although the announcement does not identify every participating Asian app, wallet or merchant. PR Newswire

The launch is RoamQR’s first operational corridor into Latin America. Liquid Group said the partners completed technical integration, certification and operational-readiness work after signing a memorandum of understanding at the Singapore FinTech Festival in late 2025.

The commercial relevance lies in reducing the number of bilateral connections needed between domestic payment systems. For banks and wallets, a shared interoperability layer can extend overseas acceptance; for merchants, it may add international customers without requiring a separate payment terminal.

The corridor also tests whether familiar QR experiences can travel across very different real-time payment ecosystems. Adoption will depend on the participating institutions, foreign-exchange transparency, transaction reliability and the number of Brazilian merchants at which Asian users can actually pay.

A planned second phase would let Pix users pay in Singapore and other RoamQR markets. The companies say that expansion remains subject to implementation readiness and regulatory approvals, so it should not yet be treated as live.
