The Singapore University of Social Sciences has created 242 impact ventures through an entrepreneurship programme that connects adult learners with real social needs, according to programme figures published by Singapore's Ministry of Health on 26 August. Current examples include an AI-enabled senior-engagement service and a heart-risk tool used with community partners.

The figures show an operating pipeline in which learners, community organisations and technical specialists test ideas against practical challenges in ageing, caregiving and health. The programme outcome, rather than the festival itself, is the relevant innovation signal.
Two examples described at the festival illustrate that approach. Marymount Labs has developed an AI-powered WhatsApp companion with Tzu-Chi Foundation. The tool is intended to help active-ageing centres engage seniors through personalised check-ins, activity recommendations and reminders.
Sentinan, another venture created by SUSS adult learners, has developed an AI-enabled tool for earlier heart-risk detection. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said it had served about 300 seniors across active-ageing centres. The venture’s team combines technology and clinical experience, including a former A*STAR technology lead and a former nurse manager and oncology specialist.
These examples matter for Singapore’s innovation economy because they move the conversation beyond model capability towards implementation. Ageing populations create demand for tools that can improve access, engagement and early intervention, but adoption depends on trust, usable design and integration with community services.
The festival also highlights a route from education into entrepreneurship. Adult learners often bring sector experience and direct knowledge of operational problems. Combining that experience with seed funding and community partners can shorten the distance between a prototype and a real-world trial.
There are still important limits to the evidence. A supported venture is not automatically a sustainable company, and a pilot does not establish clinical effectiveness or commercial scale. The appropriate measures now are continued use, independently assessed outcomes, repeat deployments, partnerships and whether ventures can secure revenue or follow-on capital without losing their social purpose.
For technology suppliers and investors, the relevant signal is a growing test bed for applied innovation in health and ageing. The strongest opportunities are likely to be solutions that fit existing care workflows, demonstrate measurable benefits and make responsible use of personal data.
Singapore’s advantage is not simply the availability of AI tools. It is the ability to connect builders with universities, community organisations and public-sector priorities. The SUSS figures provide a current view of how one part of that ecosystem is translating ideas into ventures and field experience.
