The OpenAI x MHESI AI Accelerator is the first public-private partnership between OpenAI and the Thai government focused on local startups. The National Innovation Agency (NIA), Mahidol University and Techsauce are delivery partners. Five companies in the first cohort are working on medical or wellness applications and five are focused on education.

The programme is designed around the difficult step between an AI demonstration and a dependable product. Founders will work with mentors from OpenAI and Thailand's technology, research and startup communities on product design, engineering, automated testing, evaluation, responsible AI, privacy and security, cost management, growth and fundraising. Each company will receive US$2,000 in OpenAI API credits, one-to-one technical guidance and access to OpenAI models.

Each team is expected to set a concrete product, pilot, evaluation or commercial milestone. By the end of the eight weeks, the companies are expected to show a working product or substantial upgrade, evidence from representative users, early evaluation findings and a credible implementation plan.

The cohort includes CARIVA, Wello Food, Dietz, Precisionize, FitSloth, Curico, insKru, Floaino, EasyKids Robotics and Globish. Their work ranges from a multilingual voice agent for hospital phone lines to AI-supported learning tools for children, families and educators. That mix gives the accelerator a practical test: whether technical support, evaluation and access to government and university networks can turn domain expertise into products that users can trust.

OpenAI said Thailand ranks among its top 20 markets for weekly ChatGPT users and that weekly Codex usage in the country has grown more than 350-fold since the start of 2026. Those company-reported figures indicate strong developer adoption, but the accelerator's more important measure will be whether participating teams can produce reliable pilots and evidence of real-world use.

NIA said the programme will culminate in an NIA Demo Day on 6 November. That date is attributed to NIA; OpenAI's announcement describes a Demo Day in Bangkok in November without specifying the day.
