Ho Chi Minh City has opened applications for VSM 70, a pilot programme that will select 70 companies for hands-on support with smart-manufacturing adoption and production improvement.
The Centre for Smart Manufacturing and Global Value Chains, part of the Ho Chi Minh City Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, launched the programme on 21 August. The first cohort will receive a 90-day improvement period without participation fees. Vietnam News Agency
Participating factories are expected to receive current-state assessments, benchmarking against international practice, individual improvement roadmaps and on-site expert support. The programme is framed as direct technical assistance rather than a grant, certification or award.
The initial sector focus covers electronics and electromechanical production, food and beverages, mechanical and supporting industries, textiles and footwear, and plastics, chemicals and packaging. Applications are scheduled to remain open until 15 September.
The innovation-economy value is the emphasis on factory execution. Rather than treating smart manufacturing as an exhibition concept, the pilot is designed around specific operating issues such as quality, delivery, traceability and emissions requirements in supply chains.
Productivity results will become assessable after the cohort is selected, through baseline measurements, completed interventions and independently credible changes in output quality, lead times, traceability or resource efficiency. Published before-and-after measures would make the pilot useful beyond its first participants.
